THE QWIKI TEAM


CO-FOUNDERS

Doug Imbruce – CEODoug founded Qwiki in 2009 and is its CEO. Previously, he created a network of web sites that assists 1,000,000 students/year in pursuing higher education. The network was acquired by a private equity firm in 2008. Earlier, Doug worked for Warner Bros. Television and developed a web publishing solution used by tens of thousands of small businesses. His favorite Qwikis are Columbia University (class of 2005) and Alexander The Great.

Louis Monier – CTOLouis grew up in France and moved to the U.S. after getting his Ph.D. As the founder of AltaVista, he is widely considered one of the Fathers of Web search, and has held senior positions at Google, eBay, and research labs across the world. His favorite Qwikis are La Seyne sur Mer, Ganymede (moon), and Camille Flammarion.

THE TEAM

Paul Armstrong – Technical Operations DirectorPaul heralds from the suburbs of Melbourne and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2003. He brings a passion for designing and building infrastructure that ensures Qwiki quality and reliable delivery. When not working towards this goal Paul can be found adventuring with his daughter Opal, enjoying the outdoors, experimenting in the kitchen and advocating metrication in the United States. His favorite Qwikis areInternational System of Units, A metric America: A decision whose time has come, Rock Climbing and Terry Pratchett.

Owen Bossola – Lead DeveloperOwen is from Miami and started his career building GPS satellites. He worked at NYC startups Wallstrip and Thrillist as their Technical Lead before Qwiki. When not coding, he can be found surfing and making films. He holds an M.Eng. in Electrical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology. His favorite Qwikis are Terrence Malick and Machu Picchu.

CeCe Cheng – Communications DirectorCeCe grew up in St. Louis, MO and has spent the past few years city-hopping on the East Coast. She moved to the Bay Area from New York City, where she worked at Dan Klores Communications with clients in technology, consumer products, education, and healthcare. CeCe enjoys café-squatting, French literature and movie marathons. She holds a BA from Princeton University. Her favorite Qwikis are Shanghai, Oscar Wilde, and bacon.

Marc Christophe – Lead Interactive DeveloperMarc studied Film and Animation at the Pratt Institute in New York City. An autodidact, he subsequently developed a substantial knowledge of programming topics and techniques which he applied in the NYC Advertising Industry. Marc Christophe still considers himself an Artist before an Engineer, he joined Qwiki in the spring of 2010 where he continues to attempt inspired expression through technical means. His favorite Qwikis are Greek Mythology and Stanley Kubrick.

Christian Le Cocq – Lead EngineerChristian grew up near Paris, France where he got his PhD in NMR Spectroscopy. After a few years of research in French academia he moved to California in 1986. In the US he worked for Xerox, HP, Agilent Technologies and Cuil. He is the author or co-author of over a dozen patents. His interest is to understand, model and predict data patterns, from chemistry and biology to electrical engineering and more recently human communication and knowledge. His favorite Qwikis are Macavity and Hieronymus Bosch.

Rasmus Knutsson – Creative DirectorBorn on the west coast of Sweden. Schooled at the all mighty Hyper Island in Stockholm at the Interactive Art Director program. Was working as the Visual Lead on the Nike account at R/GA in London. Now changing the world at Qwiki. His favorite Qwikis are Ferrari and Megan Fox.

Hema Manickavasagam – Information HerderHema designs, builds and squeezes performance from web crawlers, indexers and server networking drivers. Also an undercover artist, costumer and film buff. Bringing in the best visual data to make Qwikis dazzle. She holds an MS (CS) from Carnegie Mellon University. Wild West Digital Cowgirl. Her favorite Qwikis are Sun Wukong, Himalayas, and Terracotta Army.

Jay Oh – Co-Founder EmeritusJay created the early Qwiki prototype and worked with Greg and Doug to secure the initial participation of Qwiki’s investors.

Greg Pape – iOS EngineerMigrating from Illinois by way of Washington, D.C., Greg joined Qwiki after careers in research, IT, and consulting to complete his professional and geographic collections. Away from the IDE, you can find him striving not to be terrible at combat sports. His favorite Qwikis are Champaign, Illinois, International Space Station and Lolcat.

Gregory Smith – Co-Founder EmeritusGreg was Qwiki’s first investor, and played an important role in inspiring Qwiki’s initial concept and fundraising. Doug and Greg have been working together on a variety of projects since 2001, and began work on Qwiki in 2009.

Michael Szewczyk – Director of OperationsMichael joined Qwiki in 2009 after leading operations at a production company focusing on educational content for higher education. Previously he worked in private equity focusing on clean energy investments in the emerging markets. He holds a license to operate from the University of Connecticut, and is fluent in Polish. His favorite Qwikis are America’s Cup, Joanna Krupa and Cook Islands.
